Realistic geometric model of a white beaked dolphin based on 3-D scan data. Due to the difficulty of directly measuring a live dolphin, a frozen specimen from a museum was used instead. The frozen dolphin, which had been found dead on a beach and preserved, was measured for its length and mass. The 3-D surface shape of the frozen dolphin was scanned using a non-contact 3-D scanner. The experiment was approved by relevant committees. To compensate for the distortion caused by freezing, a symmetric model of the dolphin was reconstructed using CAD software for the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. Both original and reconstructed 3d models (STL files) of Dolhpin are attached. Also check out the "Refetch" below for CFD simulations of the Dolphin. These 3d models of White Beaked Dolphin are from the following source/authors. The STL geometries used here are adapted from the work of: Hiroto Tanaka, Gen Li, Yusuke Uchida, Masashi Nakamura, Teruaki Ikeda, Hao Liu in the article titled '[Measurement of time-varying kinematics of a dolphin in burst accelerating swimming]' published in the journal [PLOS ONE]. The source can be found at [Link to the data source: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0210860] .
