Air bubble rising in a cylindrical column of water
NoAI: This model, simulation, images, or project may not be utilized within datasets, during the developmental process, or as inputs for generative AI programs.
With the interFoam solver in OpenFOAM, a transient simulation of an air bubble rising in a water column is carried out. For this 3D multiphase flow simulation, the volume of fluid approach is used to track the sharp interface between air and water. The setup has a cylinder with a 5mm radius and 30mm height and the water is filled up to 25mm. The top surface of the cylinder is open to the atmosphere and the remaining surfaces are considered walls. A spherical bubble of air with a radius of 2.5 mm is suspended in the water medium at a height of 5mm from the bottom surface of the cylinder. With the blockMesh tool, an O-grid mesh with 40000 hexahedral cells is generated. Simulation is performed for 0.2 seconds.
